Our son looked up from his book the other day to ask “Mom, what does ‘daring’ mean?” I told him that it meant to do something that was difficult and dangerous, or risky. He pondered a moment, then solemnly pronounced his opinion.
“Oh” he said. “It’s a synonym for ‘stupid’.”
Clearly he and Peter would disagree. Michael, however, would agree with him.
Hey, wait a minute there, young man! I resemble that remark – at least at times. Or so my nose still tells me.
It’s only stupid when the risk is unnecessary. And unfortunately, we all know that taking that risk is often mandatory, or at the least, highly advisable. Someone has to be there and do that. Who’s it going to be this time? Next time? Any volunteers?
Ah, well. Just give me a decent shield before I step up again… You know the one.
I can’t give you the shield – weapons aren’t permitted in court. On the other hand, it would definitely make a point.
